It’s been quite a while since we last made it to Lake Tahoe and it was great to be back. We decided to stay around Truckee to have easier access to the forest and the hikes, and had a great time in a fairly new hotel.
We had lunch at Sunnyside Restaurant. We made it there just minutes after they had opened and got prime seating watching all the boats come in for some comfort food. After lunch we drove further south to check out the D.L. Bliss campground and beach. Very nice and very crowded.
We had planned to hike Mt. Tallac on Sunday but some reviews got on thinking differently and we instead ended up at Squaw Valley hoping to hike up to High Camp. We were unfortunately told that the top of the trail was closed off due to snow, but that we were welcome to hike up to the lake.
We ended up hiking and climbing all the way but it was probably the hardest hike we’ve done to date. Lots of snow, ice, steep mountain sides, and it was easy to lose direction. But we made it and John was very proud of the two girls for hanging in there.
We took the cable car down. It’s a free ride going down. As they said: “You’ve earned it.” Anyway, highly recommended and we’d do it again but maybe with crampons unless the snow decides to melt.
Monday brought a revisit for Olivia to their old house. It had been remodeled to the point where she hardly recognized it. We drove down to the lake afterward and took some photos of the beautiful sights before heading back home.
