Another gray day with rain in the forecast. The concierge tried to help a bit telling us about an old local saying: it rains when someone important leaves Hong Kong. We would take some sunshine instead, but we made the best of it.
Started at the Flower Market (Kowloon). More flowers that you could ever want in just as many colors. The bird market was right next door, and if you could forget about the inhumane conditions for a while, there were much beauty – both colors and song – in the cages. Found a few birds that wanted to have a conversation, but it became quite trivial when the only response you got was a long “whyyyyy”. The girls stopped by the Tin Hau temple for a quick prayer and a bio-break before we hit the jade market. A few nick nacks and a miniature Buddha later, and we had to open the umbrellas again.
Quickly passed through another couple of markets – fish and poultry. No comments.
Despite the past two markets we had lunch at Shangri-La (Cafe Too). Great Wonton Noodle soup as recommend by Hemisphere’s “Three Perfect Days in Hong Kong”. Stopped at the Western Market to look at some silk but couldn’t find out what to do with it, so we left again. Ran up the hill to the Man Mo temple. Found a nice little tea shop just around the corner before we jumped on the subway (MTR) back to the hotel. We got picked up an hour later and was checked-in a couple of hours before departure. United Airlines was kind enough to let the three of us use their lounge. We kicked back with Oreo cookies and ice cream.
There’s another hour of flying left until we are in San Francisco. We slept most of the 12 hours. Well, as much as you can in monkey class. We’re looking forward to see Moses and I’m trying to forget that I have to be on the CalTrain on my way to work in 12 hours.
