Spent the morning in San Francisco. Had breakfast at the Cliff House (popovers to die for). We had not been there since they remodeled. It’s much nicer now, and there’s plenty more chance of getting a window seat. We continued to the Zoo, so Isabella could go ice skating. But she had hardly gotten the skates on before the power all over the Zoo disappeared. They closed the skating ring because the freezer (also) stopped working. Luckily none of the cages opened and the ice held up until everybody got off.
John came back from Denmark last Sunday in time for Isabella’s Lucia performance. It was a very pretty Lucia performance but much shorter this year. We were back at 9:00 PM after she’d been through most of the Swedish carols. She had a great time with Viktoria – unfortunately she only sees her every December. Denmark was good fun. Spending time with many friends and lots of “hygge”. Scandinavian Airlines managed to forget the suitcase in Chicago, so John carried all the presents back again 🙁 Third time in a row they misplace the luggage.
Monday brought a decision to cancel our New Zealand trip and rest a bit more at home. Isabella wasn’t too happy with the decision as it = no early present opening. But she got over it rather quick and is happy we get to celebrate Christmas at home instead. We are pondering driving up to Lake Tahoe for a couple of days. Surprisingly there’s still a good amount of hotel rooms left. It’s a bit of a bummer that we didn’t get to go to New Zealand and Sydney this time around, but it was the right decision. Next trip on our calendar is The Ahwahnee in Yosemite, but that’s not until the new kitchen is done.
Speaking of which… we’re trying to find excuses not the get started, but we really need to have it all in boxes and emptied by tomorrow. The guys will start demolishing Tuesday AM. Six weeks with no kitchen whatsoever. It’s scheduled to be finished February 8. That’s 2008. Hm… maybe we should check the contract again. We bought appliances yesterday (gas range, fan, and… a dishwasher – YAY!), and decided on colors for cabinets and countertop. It’s exciting and it will change the house for the much better.
Better get started on those boxes…
