90 minutes and counting…

We made it to Seoul and will board the last plane in an hour-and-a-half. As expected we’re pretty much toast. Isabella is on her third movie since we landed at 7:00 this morning and judging by the look of her eyes, she’ll sleep much of the ten hours to San Francisco.

Thai Airways was a disappointment on the last leg. Despite the plane being a Boeing 777, they’d managed to install very old and small seats that hardly reclined. So we didn’t sleep well and we were looking forward to row nine at United – a very small and very private section of their 777s with only two row of seats. But alas, plane change today and we’ve been moved to the bulkhead in the bigger cabin. Oh well, at this point we just want to get home, and we hope most are just as exhausted as we are.

Yesterday was spent at Wat Pho with the enormous reclining Buddha and the more than 1,000 Buddha images. It’s so impressive with its golden color.

We took the train from the hotel and boarded a boat to take us to the temple. Good fun to be on the water although it was an express boat. We later regretted not having gotten a long tail boat, and booked a 90 min. ride on the canals. Guide spoke absolutely no English but kept talking to us anyway. There wasn’t a whole lot to see. We counted five boats filled with souvenirs – that’s what remains of the original floating markets. After some fish feeding we just relaxed and enjoyed the scenery. Not always easy as the majority of the trip takes you through what looks to be very poor neighborhoods. A good reminder of how very fortunate we are to live the lives we do.

The tailor delivered our newly made clothes at the end of the day, and we took a taxi to the airport around eight in the evening. Cab driver tried to pull a fast one on us and changed the meter from 400 to 999 Baht. Turned out that if you held down a certain key combination, the numbers changed to 999. You gotta love it. We weren’t in the mood, and gave him the 400.

Now we’re looking forward to be home and to see Moses. Looks like the temperatures hit 100 degrees (38 Celcius), while we were gone. Hopefully he hasn’t melted. The coming week is a little on/off. Isabella starts her first summer camp next week, so we have a bit of time to fill until then. The garage door needs to get fixed and hopefully the architectural drawings will start to arrive in some shape or form.
