From Phinda Game Reserve

We don’t know where to start but it’s been a week we’ll probably never forget. Everything has been top notch and we’ve seen so many animals Isabella ran out of space in her note book. The list is very(!) long. The highlights are probably the lions, cheetahs, elephants, and the incredible scenery that waited around almost every corner.

We had booked our own driver and vehicle and Jono was great at positioning the car in the best possible light every time. We have good pictures to show it. We hope to be able to upload them soon for everyone to see.

Got up at 5:30 every morning and left the lodge at 6:00. Drove around until we found animals or their tracks. Cold but there’s nothing like seeing the sun rise slowly over the plains. We came back to the lodge around 11:00, had breakfast and rested a bit before we left again at 3:00 PM. We stayed out until it was pitch black just looking for animals.

The weather has been a bit iffy. The best weather was Friday – the day before we left, so we stayed out as long as we could to enjoy the sunshine together with the animals. Isabella went horseback riding Thursday morning and had a great time. It drizzled but who notices that when there’s a horse around?

We were very sad to leave Saturday morning and understand why 70% of the guests come back. It’s definitely an outdoor experience and we sometimes waited for hours without seeing much else than an Impala or a warthog. But it all changed when a branch suddenly cracked or another ranger had spottet an animal. We enjoyed it all – even a puncture in the middle of the night and the grumpy lion that surprised us roaring from inside a bush as we slowly made our way to its family.

Good clean fun that we will share as soon as we can.
