We got back from Hawaii October 13. Returned Isabella school one day late so there was a bit extra homework waiting once she returned. We had a great trip and stayed in a fabulous condo at Diamond Head. Awesome views of the ocean with surfers, stingrays, submarines, and just about every other kind of vessel passing by.
We made it all around the island, snorkeled in Hanauma Bay, hiked to Ka’ena Point (most westerly point of Oahu), chilled at beautiful beaches, and did what we could to relax. Isabella spent a good amount of time on a boogie board but also put good use to mask and snorkel. Weather was fantastic. Not too hot with the usual scattered clouds. As you can see we had great Hawaiian sunsets. There are more images here.
Moses got a private room at the Pets Hotel down the road. He lost his collar and also ended up with some kind of infection on his tail. He was on antibiotics for a week following the stay. Who knows – maybe he caught something in the garden once back at home. Anyway, he’s back in shape and is as good as new in his fresh Autumn cut.
Spent the following weekend in Carmel Valley. Was hoping to bring Phoebe (Isabella’s friend from Camp Erin), but she developed a high fever a couple of days before. She’s OK again and we’re looking for another day for them to play. Hiked the top of the hills and ran into an Open House on the way back. They had knocked one million off the listing price. It was still five million though with no sight of an included Rolls Royce… Had another fantastic sunset which made us put the kibosh on a scheduled spring break trip to Bali. No need to travel to the other side of the world to see a beautiful end to a day.
Hung around Earthbound Farms for a while to enjoy their pumpkin display. The storm that passed through while we were in Hawaii – thank you very much! – had completely destroyed the corn maze mentioned in a couple of previous posts. Pumpkins seemed more resistant and they were present in all different colors and shapes.
Along those lines: we took care of Isabella’s costume last Monday. Images here after she’s shows it off on the streets of Burlingame. The school cancelled the parade citing too much homework. Hm… Parent-Teacher conference is coming up next week. According the feedback on her homework Isabella is doing great in 3rd grade. We hear rumors that she’s sometimes finding it difficult to be quiet in class, and that her name is singled out on the board once in a while. It’s all good – part of being eight. She’s working on the next school project. This time about native americans and she chose the Apaches as Lyne’s dad was a descendants from that tribe.
Still pondering what to do for Isabella’s birthday party we went to Laser Quest in Mountain View on Saturday evening. Olivia’s three girls, Maimie, Isabella and John in 15 min. of intense laser gun fun. It’s a bit far away, but we might just do it. Ideas are welcome 🙂 We had also considered paint ball, but the place fell victim to the economy.
That leaves work… Not that much new to report. There are talks of a contract and a full-time position in San Francisco. Ironically John made the decision not to look for work too intensely in the week that passed. At the end of the week three new opportunities had opened up including one of those all-day interview rounds. Maybe the trick is to take a vacation…
