John just got back from a short – in time – trip to Dubai. The economic climate is better out there, but overall the bigger, higher, more extreme culture seems to have slowed down. As part of the trip John went out to the Bab Al Shams resort to photograph a falconer and his four different birds in action. They put on quite a show and it proved impossible for the camera to keep the focus steady when a peregrine falcon comes at you. The following afternoon was spent trying to get close to the Burj Al Arab hotel; which as usual wasn’t easy but patience and a bit of luck made it possible to once again sit on the beach and enjoy the impressive building.
The travel meant John missing out on Adriana’s four-year birthday cupcake party, but the girls helped set up at Teacake in Burlingame. Adriana got celebrated in style by many of her friends from Montessori and had lots of fun decorating cupcakes. And eating them! A princess came to visit which resonated more with the girls than with the two invited boys. The family including cousin Rlynn celebrated Adriana at Benihana Friday evening, and even the fish from school – Shiner – came home with her for the weekend. Adriana’s been a little under the weather throughout the weekend, but is back to her usual self.
Bella had the annual school dance the Friday before. It’s ended up being neon-themed, and they all looked like something straight out of a Jane Fonda workout video from the early 80’s. Bella took the prize for best outfit together with her two friends Lauren and Reina.
