Despite last year’s weather mess being somewhat fresh in memory John snug off to Copenhagen for a few days in the company of family and friends. Copenhagen had seen heat records for December so it was somewhat safe this time around..
As usual it was a whirlwind schedule and John sat down with his dad and Birgit only a few hours after landing in Kastrup. Nice and cozy dinner at Orangeriet with exchange of presents and a couple of items left behind in September. We look forward to see the two of them come February.
John met up with his mom at Restaurant Herman in Tivoli Gardens next day at lunch. It was good to wish her happy birthday in person, to catch up and to eat among the rich and famous. Mariane had gotten presents for the four girls (beautiful necklaces) which John brought back. Naturally we’ll see her too next time we’re in Denmark.
Friday evening was spent with good friends – Hanne and Carl – and their spouses. We closed out Restautant FIAT and went for a Christmas brew nearby. Much easier to find beer than a taxi home… Great company and these trips wouldn’t be the same without hooking up with this bunch.
Saturday was the traditional Christmas lunch. There were six of us this year. We started off with a ride around town which was followed up with lunch. We closed the party at Cafe Victor way past our bedtime, but experience had told John to keep Sunday fairly open. John was back home in San Francisco Monday evening. Not the best return trip as mechanical problems forced everyone to change planes in Frankfurt. United refunded a tiny portion of the miles used, but only after a lengthy e-mail.
